La BLANCA, Texas  — Authorities in south Texas say at least three people are dead following a shooting by masked gunman at a cockfighting match.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino told media outlets there was a large group of people gathered outside the community of La Blanca when masked gunmen showed up early Thursday and began firing into the crowd.

Authorities say several others were wounded, but there is no immediate word on their conditions.

Border Patrol agents were also called in to assist at the scene.
