SANFORD – Faith Crosby hit a three-run homer in the first inning Thursday and Sanford went on to an 8-3 victory against Cheverus in a Southern Maine Activities Association softball opener.

Crosby finished with three hits for Sanford, which scored four runs in the first and four in the third. Samantha Adams earned the win, allowing eight hits and striking out seven. She also had a single and a double.

Staci Swallow paced Cheverus with three hits.

MARSHWOOD 12, DEERING 0: Nicole Harvey limited Deering (0-2) to one single as the Hawks (1-1) took a six-inning victory at South Berwick.

Kim Hussey paced the Hawks with four hits. Nicole O’Neil and Harvey each contributed three hits and two runs.

Izzy Doughty singled for Deering.

BASEBALL

WINDHAM 6, MARSHWOOD 0: Cody Dube pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts and Robbie Hamilton had three hits as the Eagles won an opener at South Berwick.

Hamilton, who had two singles, capped a three-run fifth inning with a two-run double that made it 6-0. Hamilton also scored a run and had a stolen base.

Starting pitcher Luke Fernandes struck out seven in four innings for Marshwood.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

KENNEBUNK 13, BIDDEFORD 1: Sean Foley had four goals and two assists as the Rams won an opener at Biddeford.

Harrison Hall added two goals and two assists, and Pat Rimmer, Nick Hussey and Blake Dowe each had two goals and one assist.
