BRUNSWICK – Melissa DellaTorre established a single-season Bowdoin record with her 14th win in a 7-1 victory over Colby during the first game of a NESCAC softball doubleheader on Saturday.

Bowdoin (25-10, 6-3) won the second game 8-0 in five innings.

Caroline Dewar had four hits in the doubleheader to tie Bowdoin’s career hits record with 158, and Gen Barlow blasted two home runs to tie the school’s single-season record with seven.

The Mules are 8-19, 0-9.

STONY BROOK SWEEPS MAINE: Jessica Combs scored on Suzanne Karath’s second-inning double, then doubled home Shayla Giosia and Lauren Maloney in the sixth to provide all the offense for Stony Brook (31-11, 10-1 America East) in a 3-0 victory over the Black Bears (11-26, 3-7) during the first game of a doubleheader at Stony Brook, N.Y.

The Seawolves won the second game 1-0, as Karath scored on a first-inning error.

TUFTS 15, BATES 5: Karen Ullmann and Kiely Webster each had two hits and two RBI for Bates (14-9, 4-5 NESCAC) in a loss to the Jumbos (27-4, 12-0) at Lewiston.

KEENE STATE SWEEPS SOUTHERN MAINE: Laura Chandler had four hits, scored four times and drove home three runs as the Owls (18-7-1, 5-3 LEC) swept Southern Maine (3-29, 1-7) in Keene, N.H.

The Owls won the opener 12-1 in five innings and followed with an 8-5 victory in the second game.

Emily Trembley finished the day with three hits for USM.

ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS ST. JOSEPH (CONN.): Theresa Hendrix fired a perfect game in the opener as the Monks (28-5) took 2-0 and 8-0 victories over the Blue Jays (17-19) at Standish.

Hendrix fanned three. Lindsay Moore doubled, tripled and scored both runs.

Maddie Kluna pitched a four-hitter in the second game.

BASEBALL

SOUTHERN MAINE SWEEPS PLYMOUTH STATE: Nick Grady was 4 for 9 with a double, home run, three runs scored and six RBI to help the Huskies (16-14, 7-3 Little East) sweep the Panthers (12-18, 2-8) at Gorham.

 

BATES AND TRINITY SPLIT: Ryan Sonberg led off the 13th inning with a walk and scored the go-ahead run on Kevin Davis’ single to center, and Mike Ciummei and Griffin Tewksbury added RBI singles to give Bates (16-15, 2-7 NESCAC) an 8-5 victory over the Bantams (23-8, 10-2) in the second game of a doubleheader at Hartford, Conn.

In the first game, Sean Meekins won his sixth straight decision without a loss and Brian Wolfe drove in the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead Trinity to a 2-1 victory.

BOWDOIN AND COLBY SPLIT: The Polar Bears (17-12, 5-4 NESCAC) rallied from a three-run deficit in the bottom of the seventh to take a 6-5 win in Game 1, but the Mules (13-14, 3-6) came back with a 7-5 victory in Game 2 at Brunswick.

ST. JOSEPH’S 9, DANIEL WEBSTER 3: Brandon Chase was 3 for 4 with two home runs and five RBI to lead the Monks (31-4) past the Eagles (17-14) at Standish.

SMCC SWEEPS EASTERN MAINE CC: Matt Turnage struck out 10 in the opener and Mike Vadnais fanned 12 in the second game as the Seawolves (18-14-1) took 2-1 and 13-3 wins over the Golden Eagles (0-5) at South Portland.

MEN’S LACROSSE

COLBY 11, MIDDLEBURY 10: John Jennings scored his seventh goal of the game with 1:59 left in overtime to give the Mules (8-4, 5-4 NESCAC) the edge over the Panthers (3-9, 2-7) at Waterville.

Middlebury got goals from Stew Kerr and Brian Ayers in the final 52 seconds of regulation to force overtime.

ST. JOSEPH’S 18, RIVIER 2: Andrew Sullivan had four goals and an assist, and Jonathan Horgan had two goals and five assists to help the Monks (8-9, 6-3 GNAC) down the Raiders (4-9, 1-8) at Standish.

UNE 9, SALVE REGINA 7: Tyler Thomas had four goals and an assist for the Nor’easters (9-7), who took a 5-2 halftime lead and held off the Seahawks (1-6) at Middletown, R.I.

EASTERN CONNECTICUT STATE 18, SOUTHERN MAINE 7: Christian Leone and Salieu Bolivar each scored three goals for the Warriors (8-5, 5-0 Little East) in a win over the Huskies (4-9, 1-4) in Gorham.

Kaleb Smith had two goals and an assist for USM.

CONNECTICUT COLLEGE 6, BATES 5: John Lyons scored two of his three goals during a game-ending 5-0 run as the Camels (8-5, 5-4 NESCAC) overcame a 5-1 deficit to beat Bates (4-8, 2-7) in Lewiston.

Rob Highland, Jack Strain, Jason Hichborn, Thomas Repko and Mac Jackson scored for Bates.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

COLBY 8, MIDDLEBURY 6: Claire Donegan scored twice and fed Hilary Barr for a goal, and Lindsey McKenna scored two goals as Colby (12-1, 8-1 NESCAC) opened the second half on a 5-0 run to overtake the Panthers (10-2, 7-2) at Middlebury, Vt.

EASTERN CONNECTICUT ST. 20, USM 15: Jacki Kelly scored a school-record nine goals for the Huskies (6-9, 2-2 Little East) in a loss to the Warriors (10-6, 3-2) at Mansfield, Conn.

UNE 20, SALVE REGINA 13: Hannah Tavella had seven goals and two assists to lead the Nor’easters (12-3, 6-1 Commonwealth Coast) past the Seahawks (10-5, 3-4) at Middletown, R.I.

Gina Newsome, Cara Cole and Emily Lodge each added three goals for UNE, which earned the second seed and a first-round bye in the conference tourney.
