PORTLAND — Renovations to the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland are on the agenda at a county commissioners meeting.
The commissioners will take up the issue today at their meeting at the Cumberland County Courthouse in Portland.
They plan an executive session to discuss a memorandum of understanding with the civic center trustees for a renovation protocol.
Approval of the memorandum, and approval of allocation of $33 million for the renovation, are scheduled for the public portion of the meeting.
Improvements are to include changing entrances and eliminating dangerous outside stairs, adding premium seating and suites, widening the concourses and other changes.
Consultants say that unless the building undergoes a major improvement soon, it will lose its competitive position to attract national entertainment and sports events.
