HOWLAND — Maine State Police say a Freeport man is missing after a party that’s hosted by University of Maine students each spring at a different, secret location.

Freeport Police Chief Gerald Schofield says 24-year-old Dean Levasseur arrived Saturday with a carload of friends at the so-called Chickenfest, held in the woods north of Orono. He says Levasseur was performing with a band but disappeared before their 11 p.m. performance.

The event is not sanctioned by the university.

Trooper Thomas Fiske said a canine search was unsuccessful today. He says Levasseur’s phone last pinged a tower in the Howland-LaGrange area this morning.

Levasseur is described as 5-foot-6 and 145 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. Police say he was last seen wearing a green jacket and blue jeans.
