PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — A hospital spokeswoman says a worker has died of injuries suffered when a beer keg exploded at the Redhook Brewery in Portsmouth, N.H.

Nancy Notis of Portsmouth Regional Hospital confirmed the worker died today.

The New Hampshire office of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration says it is investigating the death and has people at the worksite.

Assistant Fire Chief Steve Achilles said firefighters were dispatched to the brewery at the Pease tradeport shortly after 7 a.m. Achilles said the worker, whose name has not been released, was found unresponsive in the loading dock area. He said the worker had been filling kegs with air as part of a cleaning process that removes residual beer from the kegs when one exploded. Achilles said the worker suffered chest and head injuries.
