AUBURN — A 47-year-old Maine man charged with murder in the 2010 shooting death of his wife is expected to plead guilty in a plea agreement that calls for a sentence of 25 to 42 years in prison.

Brian Nichols of Turner is scheduled to appear in Androscoggin County Superior Court in Auburn on today.

Prosecutors say the 47-year-old Nichols shot his wife, Jane Tetreault, because he thought she was having an affair.

The Attorney General’s Office says the agreement calls for Nichols to plead guilty in exchange for a prison sentence of no more than 42 years and no less than 25 years. Prosecutors will argue for the maximum sentence at a future sentencing hearing.
