Army Pfc. Isaiah R. Bruns has graduated from the Fire Support Specialist Advanced Individual Training course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. Bruns is the son of Richard and Amy Bruns of Bridgton and is a 2011 graduate of Lake Region High School, Naples.

Army Pvt. Matthew A. Alves has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. Alves is the son of Regina Alves of Portland and graduated from Deering High School in 2009.

Army Pvt. Ian M. Keith has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. He is the brother of Nicholas Keith of Portland and is a 2010 graduate of Portland High School.

The State of Maine Silver Commemorative Coin presentation to Maine women veterans will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Maine Veterans Home, 290 Route 1, Scarborough. Coins will be presented to eight World War II veterans, five Korean War veterans, nine Vietnam War veterans, 10 Cold War veterans and five Persian Gulf War veterans. The ceremony is open to the public.

World War II military veterans interested in participating in the Portland Memorial Day parade are welcome to muster at the Harold T. Andrews American Legion Post 17 at 23 Deering St., Portland. Arrive no later than 10 a.m. May 28. Transportation will be provided by Mainely Tours, which will pick up and drop off at the Post. Participants are welcome to enjoy the fish chowder lunch which immediately follows the parade.
