WARREN — An inmate who was unloading a palette at the Maine State Prison this morning slipped and fell into a forklift, but was not seriously injured, according to a prison spokeswoman.

Judy Plummer said the inmate was seen by prison medical staff after the accident took place. He did not require hospitalization. Plummer was not sure if the forklift was moving at the time.

Coincidentally, inspectors from the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration were inside the prison doing a routine safety practices inspection, Plummer said.

Plummer said the accident had nothing to do with the federal inspection.
