SOUTH PORTLAND — The existing Veterans Memorial Bridge will be closed tonight due to construction of the new bridge by the same name.
Maine transportation officials say the bridge will be closed from 7 p.m. tonight until 6 a.m. Friday. The closure will allow construction crews to install drainage pipe across the existing bridge.
Detour signs will be posted to alert drivers of alternate routes.
Construction of the new bridge is on schedule and expected to open to traffic this summer. The removal of the old bridge is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
