MANSFIELD, Conn. – Jordan Edgett’s two-run double highlighted a four-run seventh inning as Bowdoin beat Southern Maine 6-4 in an elimination game Thursday in the NCAA Division III baseball regionals.

Trailing 4-2, the Polar Bears (26-19) loaded the bases with nobody out in the seventh on an error, a hit batsman and a fielder’s choice on an attempted sacrifice. With one out, John Lefeber hit an RBI single, and Edgett followed with a double to center, driving home Sam Canales and Duncan Taylor. USM reliever Nick Douglass then hit two consecutive batters to force in another run.

Harry Van Zant earned the win in relief of Christian Martin, allowing two hits and an unearned run in four innings. He struck out five and walked none.

USM (27-19) took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Jake Glauser tied the game with a sacrifice fly and Forrest Chadwick scored the go-ahead run on an error. Matt Powers singled home Matt Verrier to make it 4-2.

Douglass relieved USM starter Ben Ives in the fourth inning and took the loss despite giving up only two hits in three innings.

Bowdoin opened the scoring in the first inning on consecutive singles by Lefeber, Edgett and Dan Findley.

USM tied it in the third on Tucker White’s RBI single, but Bowdoin regained the lead in the fourth on Oliver Van Zant’s sacrifice fly with the bases loaded.
