Oxford Plains Speedway opens its 63rd season Sunday, and three drivers who will race in the Late Model Division came to Portland to show off their cars Friday in Monument Square.

The track owner, Bill Ryan, expects nearly 50 cars will compete Sunday for 32 spots in the American Canadian Tour’s Armed Forces 150. Half of those cars will be driven by Oxford Plains regulars competing against the regional tour drivers.

“We had practice last week, and I think 26 or 27 drivers were practicing, and not everybody was practicing,” Ryan said.

“It actually looks really, really good,” said Travis Stearns of Auburn, starting his second full season in the Late Model division at Oxford Plains. “It looks to be a big car count and there seem to be some good cars. It’s probably the best it’s been in years, at least since I started.”

In addition to the ACT race, 10-lap features in the Mini-Stocks, Strictly Stocks, Renegades and Ladies divisions, and a 20-lap feature in the Truck division are scheduled.

The gate opens at 1 p.m.
