LEWISTON — Nearly 200 people are losing their jobs at a call center in Lewiston.

Officials at a call center owned by Xerox told employees that 121 workers would be let go on July 18 and another 60 on July 31.

Spokesman Alexander Charles told the Sun Journal that the affected employees have been handling calls directed to Allstate and Capitol One, but that the company found it no longer economically feasible to keep the positions.

The call center was formerly known as Affiliated Computer Services. That company was bought in 2009 by Xerox, which began phasing out the ACS name in Lewiston earlier this year.
