FALMOUTH – Luke Saffran hit a two-run single in the fourth inning Saturday and Greely held on for a 2-1 victory against Falmouth in a Western Maine Conference baseball showdown.

Bailey Train and Jordan Normandeau walked in the fourth and advanced on Will McAdoo’s sacrifice for Greely (11-1).

Both runners scored on Saffran’s single down the right-field line, giving the Rangers a 2-0 lead.

Falmouth (11-1) countered with a run in the bottom of the fourth, with Grayson Beressi reaching on a single and scoring on Andrew Emple’s double off the bottom of the left-field fence.

Mike Leeman struck out 10 and held Falmouth to five hits. Thomas Fortier of the Yachtsmen gave up two hits, striking out seven.

BONNY EAGLE 6, MASSABESIC 2: Tom Hazelton struck out 14 while holding Massabesic (4-8) to two runs, and drove home four runs for the Scots (5-7) at Standish.

Hazelton had an RBI single as Bonny Eagle took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, then added a two-run single to help the Scots extend the lead to 4-1 in the second.

THORNTON ACADEMY 6, PORTLAND 5: Pinch-runner Andy Cote stole second base and scored on a single by Josh Coffin in the eighth inning to lift the Trojans (7-5) over the Bulldogs (3-9) at Saco.

CHEVERUS 4, WESTBROOK 3: Mitchell Powers’ two-out single to right, his third hit of the game, scored Harry Ridge in the eighth inning as Cheverus (8-4) downed the Blue Blazes (9-3) at Westbrook.

OCEANSIDE 12, MAINE CENTRAL INSTITUTE 8: Zac Roman and J.T. Tobin each had three of the 13 hits for Oceanside (7-5) against the Huskies (0-13) at Rockland.

SOUTH PORTLAND 4, NOBLE 1: Brendan Horton hit an RBI triple during a three-run seventh inning and finished with three hits and two triples as the Red Riots (4-8) downed the Knights (4-8) at North Berwick.

KENNEBUNK 3, DEERING 1: Kip Richard opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning and drove in the winning run with a double in the third as Kennebunk (4-8) edged visiting Deering (4-8).

The final out came when Kennebunk right fielder Eric Cressey threw out a runner at home on a fly ball.

SCARBOROUGH 11, GORHAM 1: Ben Wessel hit a three-run double in the second inning and a two-run triple in the third, and finished with six RBI to lead the Red Storm (11-1) over the Rams (3-9) in five innings at Scarborough.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

BIDDEFORD 5, NOBLE 1: Connor Morrison scored two goals and collected 12 ground balls to lead the Tigers (2-8) past the Knights (0-10) at Biddeford.

Kyle Rhames, Patrick Ruck and Chipper Trottier added a goal apiece.

DEERING 8, GREELY 6: Rick Murray scored with 3:30 left to break a 6-6 tie and also had a pair of assists for the Rams (7-3), who closed with a 3-0 run to rally past the Rangers (6-4) at Portland.

WAYNFLETE 9, SOUTH PORTLAND 6: Chris Burke scored four goals and Jack Cutler added three as the Flyers (3-6) defeated the Red Riots (3-6) at South Portland.

SOFTBALL

GREELY 14, FALMOUTH 2: Lindsey Arsenault had four hits and Edith Aromando added three, including a triple, as the Rangers (11-1) cruised past the Yachtsmen (7-6) in five innings at Falmouth.

OCEANSIDE 12, MAINE CENTRAL INSTITUTE 1: Natalie Russell got the first two of her four RBI with a first-inning homer as the Mariners (11-1) beat the Huskies (5-8) at Rockland.

POLAND 6, SACOPEE VALLEY 1: Amanda Gibson hit a three-run triple and Katie Love added a two-run double during a six-run seventh inning as the Knights (7-5) rallied past the Hawks (5-7) at South Hiram.

BIDDEFORD 6, PORTLAND 1: Alex Quigley hit a two-run homer and Sara Scott followed with a solo home run to power Biddeford (8-5) to a five-run sixth inning against the Bulldogs (1-12) at Portland.
