Golf is coming to the Olympics in 2016. So is rugby. But there are many fascinating sports and events that have sadly dropped off the Olympic schedule.

The New York Times recently compiled 10 Olympic sports they’d like to see resurrected. Here’s a sampling:

6. 200-Meter Obstacle Swimming Race (1900). Might swimming be even more exciting if the athletes also had to climb poles and run across a row of boats?

4. Two-Handed Javelin (1912). One of the few Olympic sports that let ambidextrous athletes show their skills.

1. Tug of War. (1900-1920). How is the world’s strongest men literally pulling for their country not an Olympic sport anymore?

Anyway, with the 2012 Summer Olympics just months away, it’s something fun to think about. For the complete list, click here.
