AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage has signed an anti-bullying bill and a National Football League-backed measure to prevent concussions in school sports.

The Republican governor on Monday put his signature to nearly two dozen bills that won final passage in the waning hours of Maine’s legislative session.

The anti-bullying bill builds on existing law by providing a clear definition of bullying, an explicit prohibition on bullying, discipline strategies and teacher training on how to address bullying.

The signings include a bill that amends sex offender registration laws and reforms education by allowing schools to award diplomas based on a student’s proficiency.

All bills become laws 90 days after final adjournment of the legislative session, unless it is an emergency measure, in which case it takes effect immediately.
