PORTLAND — Police divers are recovering a stolen car form the bottom of Portland Harbor which was found during the search for a missing Harvard Business School graduate.

Divers found the 1994 Cadillac just off Maine Wharf while they were looking for Nathan Bihlmaier, 31, who vanished early Sunday. Police found the car, located in 25 feet of water, on Monday but did not remove it then because that would have interfered with the search for Bihlmaier.

The stolen car is not connected to the search for Bihlmaier, police said.

Bihlmaier was found alongside Custom House Wharf, not far from Ri Ra Irish Pub, the last place he was seen alive, and across Commercial Street from the U.S. Customhouse, which Bihlmaier apparently described to his friends in an attempt to reconnect with them early Sunday morning.

The car was reported stolen May 10 from Casco Street. It appears it was driven or rolled off the end of Maine Wharf, police said. Police ask that anyone with information on the car contact authorities at 874-8533.

Divers planned to use a barge with a crane to remove the car, and may attach balloon-like devices used to float heavy items.
