BATH — State police have determined that no foul play was involved in the death of a 6-week-old Bath infant.

A spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety says the fact that the baby was sleeping in her parents’ bed was likely a “contributing factor” in the death Wednesday.

Bath rescue workers responded at the family’s home at 4:50 a.m. Wednesday after the infant’s father reported that she was unresponsive.

Life-saving measures were attempted at the scene before the child was taken to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick where she was pronounced dead about an hour later.

Authorities tell The Times Record a final report from the state medical examiner on the cause of death is likely weeks away.
