Army Pvt. Joseph E. Lastoria II has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Lastoria is the son of Joseph Lastoria of Gorham and Rowena Freeman of Houston. He is a 2011 graduate of Cheverus High School, Portland.

Maine Army National Guard’s 11th Civil Support Team in Waterville held a change of command ceremony on May 18 with Maj. Darryl Lyon of Bangor becoming the new commander. Outgoing commander Lt. Col. Herbert J. Brock of Winslow will be assigned to Joint Forces Headquarters in Augusta. The team supports civilian authorities during domestic chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or explosive incidents and also aids in pre-incident planning and training.

Maine Army National Guard’s Aviation Unit has taken over the MEDEVAC lead in Kuwait effective May 21. The Company C, 1/126th Aviation’s guidon was unveiled at a change of authority ceremony at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. The 2515th Navy Air Ambulance Detachment had been responsible for the Kuwaiti MEDEVAC mission for the last seven years and has officially turned the mission over to the Maine unit. The 1/126th’s homestation is Bangor.
