Luke Fernandes, a pitcher-shortstop from Marshwood High of South Berwick, has been named the Maine Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year.
Fernandes, a senior, is batting .404 with 14 RBI. He has a 4-1 pitching record with 47 strikeouts in 30.2 innings. He has a 1.83 ERA and has given up only four walks.
In three innings against Sanford on Tuesday, Fernandes had eight strikeouts. He sparked the Hawks to a 14-2 regular season record. Marshwood is awaiting the start of the regional playoffs on June 7.
Fernandes will attend Boston College on a baseball scholarship. He has a B-average in the classroom.
