The Cheverus, Portland and Deering High football teams would move from Western Class A to Eastern Class A under a reclassification plan unveiled by the Maine Principals’ Association football committee Wednesday in Augusta.

The three schools would join Bangor, Brunswick, Edward Little, Lewiston, Mt. Ararat and Oxford Hills in the East.

Western Class A would have Bonny Eagle, Gorham, Massabesic, Noble, Scarborough, Sanford, South Portland, Thornton Academy and Windham.

The realignment is part of the committee’s plan to move from a three-class system to a four-class beginning in 2013.

The football committee will meet Aug. 7 for adjustments.
