BERWICK — A fire of unknown origins leveled a mobile home and a travel trailer in Berwick earlier this evening.

Assistant Fire Chief Bruce Plante said that by the time firefighters arrived at  68 Mayflower Lane both the home and a nearby camper had burned to the ground.

The mobile home is located on a gravel road in a remote section of Berwick, about two miles from the closest major road – Long Swamp Road – Plante said.

“We thought the owner might have been in there (the home),” said Plante, whose team later determined that the owner has been living in Rochester, N.H. for the past three months.

The cause of the fire, which was reported a little after 5 p.m. is being investigated by the state Fire Marshal’s Office. Electrical power to the home was activated at the time of the fire.

The home was not insured.
