BANGOR — A judge has held off sentencing a Brewer man who pleaded guilty to being drunk and causing a car crash that left his passenger paralyzed after the victim asked for a prison sentence more severe than agreed upon.

Gordon Cameron pleaded guilty Monday to aggravated assault and criminal operating under the influence of intoxicants in connection with the March 2011 crash.

The plea agreement called for Cameron to serve two years for the assault charge and six months for drunken driving.

The Bangor Daily News reports the judge postponed sentencing after the 19-year-old female victim, who uses a wheelchair, asked for a stiffer sentence.

The 26-year-old Cameron wept in court and apologized through a letter read by his attorney.

Authorities say the two had been arguing before the crash.
