BIDDEFORD — Abbie Paquette pitched a six-hitter, and Heather Fecteau had two hits with an RBI and a run Tuesday as eighth-seeded Biddeford shut out ninth-ranked Bonny Eagle 2-0 in a Western Class A softball prelim.

The Tigers (9-8) scored twice in the sixth inning when Paquette singled and scored on a triple by Fecteau, who came home on a wild pitch.

Bonny Eagle (8-9) had runners on second and third with none out in the sixth, but Biddeford threw out a runner trying to steal home, and Paquette induced a pop out and a fly out.

Paquette struck out three and walked one. Allison Pike pitched a five-hitter with two strikeouts and a walk for the Scots.

 

CAPE ELIZABETH 7, OAK HILL 1: Ashley Tinsman drove in four runs to lead seventh-seeded Cape Elizabeth (14-3) over 10th-ranked Oak Hill (9-8) in a Western Class B prelim at Cape Elizabeth.

Tinsman hit a two-run single in the third inning to help the Capers take a 3-0 lead. Oak Hill scored in the top of the fifth, before Emma O’Rourke and Tinsman delivered two-run homers in the bottom of the inning.

Anna Goldstein of the Capers pitched a two-hitter with five strikeouts and two walks.

 

MASSABESIC 2, WESTBROOK 1: Kayla Goodwin drew a bases-loaded walk in the ninth inning to lift the seventh-ranked Mustangs (10-7) over 10th-seeded Westbrook (8-9) in a Western Class A prelim at Waterboro.

The Blue Blazes broke a scoreless tie on Katie Clark’s RBI single in the top of the sixth, but Massabesic tied it in the bottom of the inning on Regan Adams’ base hit.

Danielle Egan pitched a three-hitter for the victory.

SANFORD 4, GORHAM 0: Sam Fecteau hit a grand slam in the sixth inning as sixth-ranked Sanford (10-7) shut out 11th-seeded Gorham (6-11) in a Western Class A prelim at Sanford.

The win avenged a 3-1 loss to the Rams earlier in the season for Sanford.

Sanford loaded the bases in the sixth on singles by Kellie Tovey and Amanda Tierney, followed by a walk to pitcher Sam Adams.

Adams pitched her fifth shutout with a three-hitter, striking out six and walking none. She dropped her ERA to 0.91.

OLD TOWN 8, WATERVILLE 0: Kendra Hawyard pitched a shutout as the fifth-seeded Coyotes (13-4) beat the 12th-ranked Panthers (6-11) in an Eastern Class B prelim at Old Town.

Britteny Cousins and Rachael Martin each had three singles for Old Town.

Lindsey St. Claire and Nicole Martin singled for Waterville.

 

MONMOUTH ACADEMY 3, MADISON 1: Caroline Bonefant hit a two-run single in the second inning as the Mustangs won the Mountain Valley Conference championship at Madison.

Reen Kah earned the win, allowing one run on two hits, striking out 12 and walking four.

Emily McKenney allowed three runs on five hits, striking out seven and walking three for Madison. She also had a double.

LACROSSE

MESSALONSKEE 9, PORTLAND 7: Seventh-seeded Messalonskee (8-5) scored two goals in overtime to defeat the second-ranked Bulldogs (10-3) in an Eastern Class A quarterfinal at Portland.

Drew Barry scored five goals for the Bulldogs, who forced overtime despite being two players down for 15 minutes of the second half. Nine yellow cards were issued in the match.

Seniors Kylie Dalbec and Lizzy Landry also scored, and Abbey O’Brien had 17 saves for Portland.

 

GARDINER 9, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 7: Fifth-seeded Gardiner (2-11) posted the first girls’ lacrosse playoff victory in school history by beating fourth-ranked Mountain Valley (4-9) in an Eastern Class B quarterfinal at Kents Hill.

Paige Pilsbury scored five goals for Gardiner, which advanced to play top-ranked Freeport (6-6) in a semifinal Saturday.
