Thornton Academy senior pitcher Julia Geaumont was named the Gatorade Maine Softball Player of the Year on Wednesday.

Geaumont put together a tremendous season both pitching and hitting.

She went 14-2 for the second-ranked Trojans with a 0.656 Earned Run Average and 136 strikeouts in 96 innings.

At the plate, Geaumont batted .679 with 10 home runs, eight doubles and three triples. She drove in 35 runs.

“It was just a dominating season, both in the (pitchign) circle and at the plate,” said John Provost, coach at Thornton Academy. “I don’t know what else to say. Julia’s a smart kid and she put in a tremendous amount of work in the off-season the last four years. She deserves every accolade she gets.”

Geaumont will attend Bowdoin College next fall.

“I’m so excited,” she said. “It definitely shows me how much the hard work really paid off and if I put all my effort into something, it will pay off.”

Geaumont is the first player from Thornton Academy to be honored with this award.
