BARRINGTON, N.H. — Firefighters say a woman fell 30 feet from a cliff, followed by a man who went over the edge trying to save her.

Firefighters said the two were hiking on top of the ledges over Stonehouse Pond when the woman lost her footing and suffered serious injuries in the fall. Her companion, who also tumbled, was not hurt as badly and was able to call for help Tuesday.

Firefighters removed the woman on a backboard and took her to a hospital. WMUR-TV says her injuries weren’t life-threatening.

Barrington Fire Chief Rick Walker said the terrain was the biggest challenge. Fishermen helped by ferrying some of the emergency responders across the pond.
