WILTON — A Jay man was killed in a car crash late Saturday night when his car veered off Route 156 and rolled over, police said.

Paul Caldwell, 23, was found dead at the scene after the Hyundai Elantra he was driving veered off the highway around 11:20 p.m., Wilton police Chief Heidi Wilcox said in a news release.

Speed was a factor in causing the crash, which occurred near Colby Miller Road and the Wilson Lake Country Club, and police continue to investigate.

Caldwell was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car, which is registered to Ambra Gerrish, 38, of Chesterville, police said.

A blood alcohol test was conducted as is the standard practice in fatal crashes, Wilcox said.

The release said Caldwell was the only person involved in the crash. Wilcox was not immediately available Sunday to provide further details.
