FREEPORT — U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar is scheduled to visit L.L.Bean this afternoon to recognize the company’s recent pledge of $1 million to the National Park Foundation.

The money will support the foundation’s America’s Best Idea program, which provides grants for innovative projects that encourage use of national parks.

The program was inspired by Ken Burns’ 2009 PBS series, “The National Parks: America’s Best Idea.”

L.L.Bean’s gift to the foundation is part of the company’s 100th anniversary celebration.

The company also recently donated $1 million to expand the Maine Winter Sports Center’s Healthy Hometowns program to promote outdoor recreational opportunities for kids.
