BIDDEFORD – The University of New England has been cited by the NCAA for failing to monitor its financial aid process.
The NCAA Division III Committee on Infractions posted its ruling on its website today.
Penalities will include two years of probation through June 2014, a suspension for the university’s former director of athletics, and forfeiture of the financial aid in question.
The Committee on Infractions did note that the violations of Division III financial aid rules were unintentional.
UNE President Danielle Ripich said UNE fully cooperated with the NCAA investigation and simultaneously conducted its own evaluation of the financial procedures that were brought into question.
As a result, Ripich said the NCAA will not impose additional penalties.
“I believe the NCAA’s decision was fair and thoughtful. We have learned from this and strengthened our resolve to ensure that our athletics and our university operate in full compliance with NCAA regulations,” Ripich said in a message to the UNE community.
