CASCO — The owner of a house on Quaker Ridge Road that was the scene of a fire this morning has died after suffering a heart attack.

The man, whose name was not immediately available, had discovered the fire in the adjacent garage and had gotten out of the house safely, but then suffered a heart attack, said Casco Fire Chief Jason Moen.

The fire broke out at 7 a.m. and was under control within an hour. The fire destroyed the garage but firefighters saved the house.

The state Fire Marshal’s Office was called in because the heart attack makes it a fire-related death.

Casco firefighters had aid from six towns and had about 40 firefighters battling the blaze.
