Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies say speed and alcohol contributed to two crashes Friday evening that sent three people to the hospital, at least one with life-threatening injuries.

Deputies were called to a hit-and-run crash on Harrison Road about 6 p.m. Friday. A 2001 Toyota Camry collided with a 1996 Ford Ranger. The driver and occupant of the Ranger, Christopher Matthews, 39, of Westbrook and Bruce O’Donal, 38, of Naples, were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The Camry later crossed the center line about a mile down Harrison Road in Naples and crashed head-on into a Grand Am driven by Catherine Carter, 55, of Harrison.

The Camry driver, Shane Faulkingham, 21, of Woburn, Mass., and passenger Randall Parker, 20, of Woburn, had to be extricated and were taken the Bridgton Hospital. Carter was taken by Lifelight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Faulkingham was later transferred by medical helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center. The crash remains under investigation.
