Coast Guard Lt. Gabe Somma was recently promoted to lieutenant commander at a ceremony in Pensacola, Fla. Somma graduated from Deering High School in 1993 and is the son of James Somma and Valerie Somma, both of Portland. He is currently serving as an instructor pilot for student military aviators and is a MH65 search and rescue helicopter pilot with more than 2,500 military flight hours.
Cadet Travis Jay Griffin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Griffin of Scarborough, has graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. Griffin was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army’s infantry branch and will report to Fort Benning, Ga. for his first assignment. He graduated from Scarborough High School in 2007.
