AUGUSTA — Donations totaling $18,000 will help pay for the work of a Maine task force that will explore electronic monitoring systems for domestic violence offenders.

The check was handed over today to Gov. Paul LePage at the State House. The money was raised from the second annual Amy Lake Memorial 5 kilometer fundraiser, which was held last month in Dexter. Amy Lake and her two children were killed in an outburst of domestic violence by her estranged husband, Steven Lake, who also took his own life in June 2011.

LePage said he will match the donation with $18,000 from his contingency fund, which will bring the total for electronic monitoring in Maine to $36,000.

Amy Lake’s father, Ralph Bagley, says electronic monitoring would have saved his daughter’s life.
