AUGUSTA — Maine residents are paying more than two cents per gallon more for gas this week.

Price-monitoring website MaineGasPrices.com reports Tuesday that the average retail cost of a gallon of gas in Maine has risen to $3.89.

That’s nine cents per gallon more than the national average.

Maine prices are now more than 17 cents per gallon higher than on the same day one year ago and nearly 21 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.

A company analyst says the end of the summer driving season as well as the exit of Hurricane Isaac is likely to mean lower prices in the coming weeks.
