FARMINGTON — An 82-year-old Wilton man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for sexually abusing two girls under the age of 12.
Carl Seaward was sentenced recently to 13 years behind bars, with all but 18 months suspended, and 10 years of probation.

Seaward pleaded guilty to three counts of unlawful sexual contact and one count of unlawful sexual touching on Aug. 31 in Kennebec County Superior Court.
Authorities say the abuse occurred in September 2006.
The Sun Journal reports that police started investigating earlier this year after getting a referral from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.
Seaward was a guidance counselor and teacher at Jay Elementary School until his retirement in 2002, but authorities say the charges are not connected to any former students.
