Come learn about the life of the soft-shell clam. Then try your hand at digging this delicacy of the deep mud with an experienced guide at Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park. Bring sneakers or high boots, gloves, and clam hoe or spading fork. Meet at the benches at the end of the second parking lot. No reservations needed. Free with park admission, which is $1 for ages 5 to 11 and $3 for ages 12 to 64. Call the day of the program for updates, 865-4465.

Drift Boat Champions / 3 p.m. in Bethel

The Northeast Drift Boat Championship will test oarsmen’s skills at navigating a course and rowing speed. Each boat must carry at least one angler, who must remain standing throughout the timed race. Two Fly Contest / 6 a.m. -2 p.m. around Bethel

The Upper Andro Two Fly Contest will gather expert anglers on the Androscoggin River. The competition is a fundraiser for the Upper Andro Anglers Alliance, a non-profit group dedicated to the conservation, protection, restoration and promotion of the natural fishing resources of the Upper Androscoggin River. Teams may launch from public sites from the Shelburne Dam in New Hampshire to Rumford Center. Teams of three, including two anglers and a referee/oarsman, must fish from a drift boat. All fish must be released live. In addition, the Upper Andro Anglers Alliance will be offering fly tying and fly casting instruction from its Harvest Fest booth at The Bethel Inn Resort. Birding Path Workday / 9 a.m. in Orland

Great Pond Mountain Wildlands members are clearing the final stretch of their scenic birding path to Hothole Brook. Come help. Bring work gloves, bug spray, water and a snack. Meet at the Wildlands South Gate on Route 1, near the intersection of Route 176. Call 825-4709.
