TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona Cardinals Coach Ken Whisenhunt still isn’t naming a starting quarterback for Sunday’s game at New England.

John Skelton, out with a sprained right ankle, did not practice Wednesday but Whisenhunt would not rule him out for the game. Kevin Kolb said he practiced with the first unit but has not been told whether or not he will start against the Patriots.

“We’ve still got some days,” Whisenhunt said. “John’s continuing to improve. We were lucky that it was a low ankle sprain and he’s getting better. So we’ll see how it goes as the week progresses.”

Skelton beat out Kolb for the starting spot in the preseason but went down with the ankle injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s opener against Seattle. Kolb came in and directed the Cardinals on the winning touchdown drive in Arizona’s 20-16 victory.

Cardinals President Michael Bidwill said in a radio interview on Tuesday that Kolb would be the starter, but Whisenhunt would not confirm that to be the case.

JETS: Darrelle Revis is a step closer to getting back on the field.

The star cornerback, who suffered what the team called a “mild concussion” in last Sunday’s victory over the Buffalo Bills, was cleared to resume physical activity — running and lifting weights — but he’s still not allowed to participate in contact drills.

“As the week goes on, we hope he can progress further and do more things,” Coach Rex Ryan said. “But obviously, we will follow NFL protocol and lean on the trainers and doctors.”

BEARS: Pro Bowl linebacker Brian Urlacher was listed as probable and cornerback Charles Tillman questionable by the Chicago Bears for Thursday’s game at Green Bay.

Urlacher missed nearly all of training camp and the preseason with a left knee injury that required surgery. He started the season-opening win over Indianapolis and got pulled once the game was in hand for the Bears.

Tillman limped off the field with a shin injury early in the game. He came back for a defensive series and sat out the rest of the opener.

SEAHAWKS: Coach Pete Carroll believes starting left tackle Russell Okung will be able to play on Sunday against Dallas, but he is unlikely to practice most of this week.

Okung suffered a bone bruise in his left knee late in the Seahawks’ 20-16 loss to Arizona on Sunday.

TITANS: Kenny Britt is on the field once again for Tennessee, back both from a torn right ACL and three different knee surgeries and a one-game suspension by the NFL.

How much he helps remains to be seen.

Britt tore both his anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligament early in the Titans’ third game last season. He had little practice time with Matt Hasselbeck due to the NFL lockout. Now Jake Locker’s the starting quarterback, and Britt has had even less practice time with him.

JAGUARS: Jacksonville claimed offensive tackle Troy Kropog off waivers from Tennessee.

The Jaguars are in need of depth with starters Eben Britton, Cam Bradfield and Uche Nwaneri dealing with injuries. Jacksonville has four offensive linemen on injured reserve: center/guard John Estes, and guards Will Rackley, Jason Spitz and Drew Nowak.

The Jaguars waived guard Josh Beekman.

PANTHERS: Running back Jonathan Stewart returned to practice after missing the season opener with a sprained right ankle.

Stewart said he’s “making progress” in rehab and is “optimistic” he’ll play Sunday in Carolina’s home opener against New Orleans.

BILLS: Buffalo and Erie County agreed in principle to a one-year lease extension that would allow the team to continue playing at Ralph Wilson Stadium next season.

County executive Mark Poloncarz announced the agreement after Bills CEO Russ Brandon raised concerns about the lack of progress in negotiations to reach a long-term deal, and with the current lease set to expire July 31.
