PORTLAND — The Jewel of the Seas is in port today, the first of five cruise ships scheduled to visit the city this week.

In total, the ships will be carrying more than 10,400 passengers and nearly 4,000 crew members. The schedule:

Today: Jewel of the Seas, with 2,112 passengers and 869 crew. It will depart at 6 p.m.

Tuesday: the Carnival Glory, with 2,974 passengers and 1,160 crew. It arrives at 8 a.m. and departs at 5 p.m.

Friday, the Independence, with 98 passengers. Portland is its home port. It arrives Friday at 5 p.m. and departs Saturday at 3 p.m.

Saturday, the Enchantment of the Seas, with 2,250 passengers and 870 crew. It arrives at 11:30 a.m. and departs at 7 p.m.

Saturday, the Norwegian Dawn, with about 3,000 passengers and 1,000 crew. Because this is the ship’s maiden call on Portland, officials with the city and the ship will exchange plaques noting the first visit. The ship arrives at 11 a.m. and departs at 7 p.m.

In all, 60 ships carrying a total of 68,977 passengers and 26,425 crew are expected to call on Portland this year. Most of the visits are scheduled for late summer and early fall.
