DETROIT — Miguel Cabrera homered twice, including an eighth-inning grand slam, as the Detroit Tigers routed the Oakland Athletics 12-2 Tuesday night.
Cabrera matched a career high with six RBI and now has 40 homers on the season — also a career best. Prince Fielder and Jhonny Peralta added home runs for the Tigers, who remained three games behind the first-place Chicago White Sox in the AL Central.

WHITE SOX 3, ROYALS 2: Gavin Floyd pitched seven crisp innings, Alex Rios hit a tiebreaking homer in the seventh and the visiting Chicago White Sox beat Kansas City for their fifth consecutive win.
Alejandro De Aza and Gordon Beckham also went deep for AL Central-leading Chicago, which maintained a three-game advantage over Detroit.
Floyd (10-10) gave up two runs in the first inning and nothing after that.
TWINS 6, INDIANS 4: Darin Mastroianni scored the go-ahead run from second base on an infield hit in a two-run 12th inning and Minnesota won at Cleveland, tying the Indians for fourth place in the AL Central.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
BREWERS 6, PIRATES 0: Yovani Gallardo gave up just two hits over 62/3 innings and surging Milwaukee earned the victory at Pittsburgh.
Gallardo (16-8) struck out six and walked four to win his eighth straight decision as Milwaukee moved in front of fading Pittsburgh in the jumbled National League wild-card race.
The Brewers remained 2 1/2 games behind the St. Louis Cardinals, who topped the Houston Astros.
CARDINALS 4, ASTROS 1: Kyle Lohse threw seven scoreless innings for his 15th victory and contributed an RBI double as St. Louis won at home to stay in front for the second NL wild card.
The Astros need nine wins in the final 14 games to avoid topping last season’s franchise-record 106 losses.
Daniel Descalso got a key early RBI, and Jon Jay had two hits and two RBI for the Cardinals.
With 14 games to play, the defending World Series champions are 1½ games ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers and 2½ games ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers.
MARLINS 4, BRAVES 3: Jose Reyes hit a two-out RBI single in the 10th inning, and the host Miami Marlins overcame an awful ninth inning to snap Atlanta’s four-game winning streak.
With one out in the 10th inning, pinch-hitter Rob Brantly was walked by Cory Gearrin (0-1), and Gorkys Hernandez was hit by a pitch.
Following a strikeout, Reyes hit a blooper that fell in front of a diving Jason Heyward in right field, allowing Brantly to score without a play.
The Braves rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the ninth to tie the game on an RBI single by Dan Uggla and a two-run double by Brian McCann off Mike Dunn.
Dunn struck out Michael Bourn with runners at the corners to end the inning.
REDS 3, CUBS 1: Homer Bailey pitched effectively into the eighth inning, Ryan Hanigan hit a three-run double and the Cincinnati Reds won at Chicago to move closer to the NL Central title.
Cincinnati reduced its magic number to four over the Cardinals to clinch the division.
Bailey (12-9) took a two-hit shutout into the eighth before Darwin Barney had his second single of the night and pinch-hitter Bryan LaHair had an RBI double to make it 3-1.
