GORHAM – Colby College fell behind 1-0 in the 15th minute, but answered with seven straight goals from seven players to down the University of Southern Maine 7-1 in a men’s soccer game Wednesday.

Keith Chernin, Gray Louis, Chris Pratt and Nick Aubin each had a goal and an assist for Colby (2-2-2).

Maze Aljari scored the lone goal for USM (1-8). 

SUFFOLK 1, ST. JOSEPH’S 1: Jack LaFrenier scored in the 10th minute for the Monks (4-4-2, 2-2-1 GNAC), but Djibril Niang pulled the Rams (6-3-1, 3-2-1) even in a tie at Standish.

Scott Benner had three saves for St. Joseph’s. Nicholas Chamma had five saves for Suffolk.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

TUFTS 3, UNE 1: Maggie Chapman and Kelsey Perkins scored in the first 14 minutes to give the Jumbos (6-1) a 2-0 lead over the Noreasters (4-4) at Medford, Mass.

Casey Clark got UNE on the board 49 seconds into the second half, but Lia Sagerman added a goal less than six minutes later. 

COLBY 1, HUSSON 0: Maddie Tight scored from Emma Marjollet in the 108th minute to lift the Mules (5-1) over the Eagles (2-8) at Bangor.

Colby fired 33 shots but was held in check by Husson goalkeeper Jessica Poulin, who made 17 saves.

Jayde Bennett did not make a save for the Mules. 

BATES 8, HUSSON 0: Caroline Falcone scored four times for the Bobcats (2-2), who used seven second-half goals to rout the Eagles (5-5) at Lewiston.

Riley Kundtz added two goals, Polly Merck had a goal and an assist, and Alie Philip scored on a penalty stroke.

FIELD HOCKEY

SALEM ST. 3, USM 1: Paige McNickol had a goal and an assist to help the Vikings (7-1, 3-1 Little East) beat the Huskies (4-6, 1-3) at Salem, Mass.

Lauren Pazdziorny and Kathleen Clark scored first-half goals to give Salem State a 2-0 lead.

Rachel Trafton scored for Southern Maine as time expired.

FOOTBALL

PENN STATE: The Nittany Lions are down another quarterback after Coach Bill O’Brien said backup Paul Jones had left the team for personal reasons.

Jones is the second quarterback to leave Penn State this year. Rob Bolden left over the summer and is now at LSU. 

SALARIES for coordinators continue to rise in the ACC, as they do around college football.

But Clemson has taken it to a new level.

The defending Atlantic Coast Conference champions are paying out a combined $2.1 million this season for their coordinators. Second-year offensive leader Chad Morris is the highest paid assistant in college football at $1.3 million a year.

In comparison, Florida State defensive coordinator Mark Stoops earns $550,000 while offensive coordinator Rick Trickett makes $440,000.
