New citizens sworn in

Two longtime Maine School Administrative District 6 employees recently became American citizens in an oath ceremony held at the superintendent’s office where they work.

Immigration Officers Cindy Lembarra and Kurt Pelletier awarded MSAD 6 executive secretary Hedy Smith and accounts payable specialist Martine Nugent, both natives of Canada, with U.S. citizenship as fellow employees, friends and family witnessed the swearing-in ceremony.

Smith, who has lived in the United States for 35 years, said her first order of business as an American citizen will be “to register to vote.”

“It will be the first time I have ever voted in my life!” said Smith.
