BATH – Top-ranked Morse scored four goals in the second half Tuesday, overcoming a two-goal halftime deficit and downing eighth-seeded Freeport 4-2 in a Western Class B schoolgirl soccer quarterfinal.

The match was scoreless until the final 13 minutes of the first half when the Falcons (7-8-1) scored on a penalty kick. Freeport took a 2-0 halftime lead by scoring on a corner kick six minutes later.

Miracle Trimble of Morse (13-1-1) then stole the Falcons’ kickoff pass to open the second half and fed Brianna Williams for the first Morse score with just over 20 seconds elapsed. Paige Martin had the assist on the next goal, scored by Trimble.

The score remained tied until the final seven minutes, when Martin hit the upper corner with a 20-yard shot. Williams added a goal less than two minutes later.

Morse finished with an 18-9 advantage in shots.

POLAND 2, YORK 1: Emma Turton and Emily Bolduc teamed up for two goals as the fourth-seeded Knights (8-5-2) held off fifth-ranked York (7-7-1) in a Western Class B quarterfinal at Poland.

Turton gave Poland the lead 15 minutes into the match, taking a through pass from Bolduc and beating the keeper one-on-one. Ten minutes into the second half, Turton put the ball in play with a flip throw and Bolduc dribbled it in for the score.

Shannon Todd got an assist from Sierra Swasey to score for the Wildcats with 18 minutes left, but Haley Whitworth made eight saves for the win.

 

ST. DOMINIC 1, SACOPEE VALLEY 0: Marley Byrne scor-ed early in the second half to help second-ranked St. Dominic (13-1-1) beat 10th-seeded Sacopee Valley (7-5-4) in a Western Class C quarterfinal at Auburn.

Byrne took a corner kick that Kelley McLellan picked up and played back to Byrne, who angled it inside the far post.

ERSKINE ACADEMY 3, BRUNSWICK 2: Seventh-ranked Erskine Academy (10-4-2) prevailed in the third round of penalty kicks to upset the second-seeded Dragons (14-1) in an Eastern Class A quarterfinal at Brunswick.

After Rachel Maroney and Kassidy Scarponi scored to give Brunswick a 2-0 halftime lead, Erskine tied it in the second half.

After two scoreless overtime, the teams went to penalty kicks. The game remained tied after two sets of five kicks each before Erskine pulled away in the third round.

 

LISBON 2, HALL-DALE 1: Kayla Angelico scored twice, one on a penalty kick with 25 minutes left, to lift the top-seeded Greyhounds (13-1-1) over eighth-ranked Hall-Dale (9-6-1) in a Western Class C quarterfinal at Lisbon Falls.
