BANGOR — Greely High of Cumberland won its second consecutive Class A volleyball state championship Saturday night, beating top-ranked and previously-unbeaten Biddeford in four sets, 25-17, 22-25, 25-16, 25-7 at Husson College.
The Rangers dominated play at the net behind Katie Ventre, Haleigh Roach, Lauren Weikert and Kristen Atwood.
The Tigers, 16-1, were hindered by the loss of senior setter Mariah Hebert, who suffered a head injury when she crashed to the floor late in the second set. Biddeford regrouped to win that set, but Greely responded in the final two.
It was Greely’s ninth state championship in 10 years. Biddeford won the only time the Rangers didn’t, in 2010.
