MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Rachel Kennedy scored a pair of goals and Katie Riley and Lauren Schroeder added one goal apiece Saturday to lead third-seeded Bowdoin a 4-1 win over second-seeded Tufts in the New England Small College Athletic Conference field hockey semifinals.

Bowdoin (14-2) will seek its seventh NESCAC championship in the last eight years when in plays top-seeded Middlebury at noon today.

FOOTBALL

BATES 14, BOWDOIN 6: Kevin Davis caught a career-high nine passes for 87 yards and a touchdown, Patrick George scored on a 2-yard run, and Mac Jackson rushed for 61 yards on six carries as the Bobcats (4-3) downed the Polar Bears (1-6) in a NESCAC game at Brunswick.

The win gives Bates its first CBB title since 2002.

COLBY 21, TUFTS 14: Defensive end Ryan Veillette lined up at running back and threw a 3-yard touchdown to defensive back Derrick Beasley in overtime to lift the Mules (2-5) to a win over the Jumbos (0-7) in a NESCAC game at Somerville, Mass.

 

CASTLETON STATE 34, HUSSON 14: The Spartans (7-2) closed out the game with 20 unanswered points to pull away from the Eagles (2-7) at Bangor.

Trailing 14-0 at halftime, Husson rallied to tie the game on a touchdown runs by Kash Keezer and Taquan Broadway.

 

COAST GUARD 42, MAINE MARITIME 13: Billy Weatherbee scored a pair of touchdowns and finished with 153 yards to lead the Mariners (0-9, 0-7 NEFC) in a loss to the Bears (5-4, 4-3) at New London, Conn.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

BOWDOIN 4, AMHERST 3: Toni DeCampo scored in the seventh round of penalty kicks after Bridget McCarthy recorded a save on the Amherst attempt as the Polar Bears (11-3-2) edged the Lord Jeffs (13-1-2) in a NESCAC semifinal at Williamstown, Mass.

Bowdoin will face Williams in Sunday’s championship game.

MEN’S HOCKEY

USM 5, SKIDMORE 3: Angelo Vrachnas scored one goal and assisted on another, and Garrett White added a pair of assists as the Huskies (1-1, 1-1 ECAC East) raced out to a 5-0 second-period lead and held on against the Thoroughbreds at Gorham.

UNE 3, CASTLETON STATE 2: Sam Vikich scored with 23.6 seconds left in overtime and Ryan Quinn scored a pair of goals as the Nor’easters (1-1, 1-1 ECAC East) upset the 11th-ranked Spartans (1-1, 1-1) at Biddeford.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

PROVIDENCE 5, MAINE 1: Katy Massey scored and Meghann Treacy had 28 saves for the Black Bears (1-7, 1-5 Hockey East) in a loss to the Friars (6-3-1, 4-0) at Orono.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

RHODE ISLAND C.C. 101, SMCC 43: Rogetta Donalson scored 22 points for the Seawolves (3-1) in a loss to the Knights (1-0) at South Portland.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

BERKELEY 71, SMCC 65: Emmanuel Donalson scored 17 points and Alexander Hartford added 10 for the Seawolves (3-1) on the first day of the SMCC Tip Off tournament in South Portland.
