Former Bruins player Jonathan is charged in hunting fatality in southern Ontario

Former Boston Bruins forward Stan Jonathan was charged with criminal negligence in the death of a deer hunter he accidentally shot Sunday near Brantford, Ontario, according to Canadian media outlets.

Jonathan, 57, allegedly fired a round that traveled several hundred yards and fatally struck bowhunter Peter Kosid, 29, of Hamilton, Ontario. Police said Jonathan was not hunting with Kosid.

Jonathan appeared in an Ontario court Wednesday and faces more proceedings Dec. 14.

A small but tough forward, Jonathan played six complete seasons with the Bruins during the 1970s and early 1980s, and closed his NHL career with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
