Gabby Price, the former Bangor High coach who helped start the Husson University football program, has returned as head coach of Husson.

Price, 63, replaces Sean Murphy, who left after two seasons to coach men’s lacrosse.

Price is a 1967 graduate of Bangor High who played at Rutgers before returning home to play his final two seasons for the University of Maine. After graduation in 1973, he became an assistant coach at Bangor High, then became head coach after three seasons.

In two separate stints as head coach, Price led Bangor to six state championship games, winning in 1979 and 1981, and compiled a career mark of 129-52.

At Husson, he coached six seasons, beginning in 2002, and resigned after leading the Eagles to a 7-3 record in 2008. They have stumbled since then, going 5-14 in two seasons under Niles Nelson and 2-18 under Murphy.

“I am humbled to have the opportunity to lead Husson University’s football program again,” said Price, in a prepared statement. “Coach Murphy has done a good job of rebuilding a foundation and we hope to continue in a positive direction. I am excited to be coaching again as working with student athletes and helping them find success has always been very important to me.”
