NEW YORK – Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 23 points before he left late in the game after he was kneed in the head, and No. 4 Michigan beat Kansas State 71-57 on Friday night to win the NIT Season Tipoff.

Glenn Robinson III had 12 rebounds, and Trey Burke and Jon Horford had 10 points each for the Wolverines (5-0). Hardaway made 10 of 15 shots from the field before he was hurt with about four minutes left.

Rodney McGruder scored 16 points and had seven rebounds, and Angel Rodriguez scored 10 points for Kansas State (5-1).

(3) OHIO STATE 91, MISSOURI-KANSAS CITY 45: Deshaun Thomas scored 15 of his 21 points as the Buckeyes (4-0) coasted to a huge first-half lead on the way to an easy win at Columbus, Ohio.4

The game was the final tuneup for Ohio State’s ACC/Big Ten showdown against Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Wednesday night.

(5) DUKE 67, VCU 58: Mason Plumlee, a 6-foot-10 center who helped break VCU’s pressure, had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Blue Devils to a semifinal win in the Battle 4 Atlantis at Paradise Island, Bahamas.

(7) FLORIDA 79, UCF 66: Kenny Boynton scored a season-high 24 points and Scottie Wilbekin added a career-best 17 as the Gators (5-0) won at Gainesville, Fla.

MINNESOTA 84, MEMPHIS 75: Andre Hollins scored a career-high 41 points to lead Minnesota (5-1) to a win in the consolation semifinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis at Paradise Island, Bahamas.

The sophomore guard scored 24 points in the first half — one off his career high entering the game — and he closed strong, making 7 of 8 free throws and throwing in a monster dunk over the final 1:15 to account for all the Golden Gophers’ points in a 9-0 run to end the game.

(22) CINCINNATI 78, IOWA STATE 70: Sean Kilpatrick made all 16 of his free throws and scored 32 points, leading the Bearcats to a win in the semifinals of the Global Sports Classic at Las Vegas.

UMASS-BOSTON 72, UNE 30: The Beacons (2-2) limited the Nor’easters (0-4) to 19 percent shooting while forcing 24 turnovers in an opening-round win in the Harbor Invitational at Boston, Mass.

Charles Fenner III scored 10 points to pace UNE.

MOREHEAD STATE: The school suspended Coach Sean Woods for one game after he pushed an Eagles player during Wednesday’s loss at No. 8 Kentucky.

The first-year Eagles’ coach, who played at Kentucky, pushed his own player, Devon Atkinson, in the back as the senior point guard walked toward the bench after fouling out with 5:51 left.
