PORTLAND — Michelle Clements, a spokeswoman for Portland Water District, said Thursday night it will take until 11 p.m. before the district can repair a water main on Park Avenue.

The water main broke around 7:30 a.m. Thursday. The break in the 12-inch water line flooded a stretch of Park Avenue tying up the morning commute.

Water was running down the sidewalk and then spilling out into Park Avenue. It was about a foot deep in low spots. One lane of the road was closed where the water was deepest, backing up traffic.

Clements said the water main break took place in the vicinity of 128 Park Ave., between Deering and State streets, and affected about 25 customers.
