Winter Skills / 6 p.m. in Falmouth

The Maine Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club is hosting a winter skills workshop at Maine Audubon. AMC Maine Chapter leaders Peter Broderick and Laura Flight will discuss clothing, gear, snow travel and other essential knowledge to prepare yourself for outdoor outings in the winter. This event is intended as an introduction course for experienced three-season hikers and a refresher for experienced winter adventurers. Although the focus is on hiking in the winter, many of the topics can apply to any outdoor winter outing. The workshop starts at 6 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The Gilsland Farm Maine Audubon Center is located at 20 Gilsland Farm Road. Call 215-5306.

Where to Fish / 7 p.m. in Westbrook

The Sebago Chapter of Trout Unlimited has worked with the state to develop a presentation describing more than 20 places to fly fish in southwestern Maine. Flora and Fauna / 1 p.m. in Hinckley

The L.C. Bates Museum this week offers a seminar on the flora and fauna of the Christmas season. Come explore the history of the plants and animals of the holidays, and then learn a craft related to the lesson. Museum admission is $3 for adults and $1 for anyone under 18 years of age. The L.C Bates Museum is at Good Will-Hinckley, located on Route 201. For information, call 238-4250.
