Gray Ghost Fly Tyers / Jan. 8 in Yarmouth
The Gray Ghosts meet the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month through March, except holidays. The fly tying class is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and is sponsored by the Sebago chapter of Trout Unlimited. All welcome. No cost, although a $2 donation is welcome to help pay for material. The Georges River Land Trust and The Highlands Coffee House are offering a winter film series. Come to The Highlands Coffee House in Thomaston at 7 p.m. on the second Friday of each month to enjoy an outdoor film. The next film is “Hardwater.” Public welcome; admission is free. Biathlon Contest / Jan. 27 in Jefferson
Hidden Valley Nature Center is planning its second annual biathlon, a race combining skiing and shooting. The Olympic event is seeing a comeback in Maine, and HVNC is encouraging beginners and novice skiers to try it. Last year’s event drew 60 participants. Skis will be available for use.
